Happiness comes from within

By Rachella - July 17, 2017

Flowers bloom where they are planted. They show that happiness does not depend on the place where you are. Happiness comes from within.

To put this in context, think about the following. The common saying the grass is always greener on the other side refers to the tendency to look at things that we do not have through rose colored glasses. It is alluring to look at other people's lives and believe that they are happier, healthier, stronger, have a better love life, have a more satisfying job, or anything similar. Usually this type of belief is based on outer appearance, which means that the belief that someone else does way better than you is based on what you think is the truth. Or better said: it is based on what other people want you to think is the truth about their lives. The most discussed example is probably related to social media. Think about the millions of wonderful pictures that are uploaded on for example Instagram. Most of these pictures show people smiling all day and telling other people how incredibly happy and healthy they are. The truth is, however, that part of this is just show. Just like magazines and shows on television, social media is most commonly used as entertainment. I am not saying that it is not possible to be incredible happy, healthy and to smile a lot (in fact, I feel that I am one of the lucky human beings that is allowed to smile more than the average person), but I just try to point out that pictures on social media are by no means showing all aspects of somebody's life. Everyone experiences loss and grief or other less pleasant circumstances; everyone has tears every once in a while; everyone fights their own demons. I strongly recommend you to remember that if you think it seems that other people might have everything you have ever wanted and that other people do better than you. Do not focus on what you do not have, but emphasize what you do have instead. Whether it is good health, a loving friend, a one-in-a-million husband, the ability to breath in fresh air on your way home, or simply exchanging a friendly smile with a stranger.

I agree. We tend to think that other people live better. But the happiness is for sure within and nowhere else!
